But the good news is that this vac also works with an outlet, so it’s still an option, even if you may or may not be adding other DeWalt tools in the future. If you’re just starting out, however, you’ll need to get the kit that comes with the battery and charger this raises the cost quite a bit and, we think, really compromises the value of this tool. This vac makes the most sense if you already have some other tools in the DeWalt 20-volt line up. The 36-minute runtime really impressed us, though, and it was far longer than that of any other cordless options we tested. There was also the risk of larger items getting caught in the narrow hose. We had no problem sucking up wood shavings, drywall dust, and little bits of this and that, but this vac couldn’t suck up anything heavier, like a nail or a screw. The capabilities of the DeWalt are limited by the small motor and hose diameter. Because there’s also a cordless option and this vac is so light, you won’t have a problem using it in a crawl space, a tight attic, or an outbuilding that needs a little tidying, like a potting shed. But it’s a real champ with little messes around the garage, in the house, or in the basement. This is a much smaller vacuum than the Ridgid models (it doesn’t even have wheels), and it doesn’t match their capabilities on larger areas. If you’re looking for something smaller and more portable, we like the DeWalt DCV581H 20V 2-Gallon Cordless/Corded Wet/Dry Vac. Ridgid gives the vac minor upgrades and tweaks every few years, so the models have changed, but the core positives of the vac have always remained constant. The 12-gallon Ridgid is the vac I saw most on job sites and used the most often throughout a 10-year construction career, and it’s the one I’ve owned at home for years. Durable construction with a single piece cell holder. 4X runtime compared to DCB201 1.5Ah Battery Pack. And extra filters, hoses, and nozzles are easy to get in an emergency, as long as you have a Home Depot nearby. Includes (1) DCB606 6AH 60V FlexVolt battery (6AH in 20V mode, 2AH in 60V mode) Power of corded, the freedom of cordless. This Ridgid vac is regularly sold on the shelves of Home Depot (where it has thousands of mostly five-star online reviews). They all store on the vac and out of the way-a smarter design than that of many competitors’ accessory caddies. The Ridgid 12-Gallon NXT Wet/Dry Vac HD1200 comes with two wand extensions and three nozzles (one for general use, another for wet spills, and a small one for detail work). And with its four casters, well-positioned handle, and manageable weight, this model isn’t that difficult to drag through a basement or clunk up a flight of stairs. I'll definitely be filling my Toughsystem battery box with a few more of these. This wet/dry vac (aka “shop vac” 1) has a large capacity and a powerful motor for sucking up debris. I am excited about this new technology, and can't wait to see it applied to the Flexvolt batteries to reduce their weight, or even a 20v 4ah Powerstack battery. It cut plywood no problem with the circ saw, and even runs the big hammer drill (DCD999) in a pinch. I also couldn't resist trying it on bigger tools and it really impressed me. Compared to the DCB230 battery I usually run on the sander, the Powerstack battery is about half the size and less than half the weight. This battery was really comfortable on the 20v sander (DCW200) as well, with the reduced weight and improved balance, it was more ergonomic during extended use. I try not to run batteries all the way down to make them last, so when it hits one bar, throw it on the charger. This was a heavy application and the battery delivered incredible power!! It cut almost 20 linear feet before needing a charge, which is incredibly impressive for its size and the extreme cold. I was using my oscillating tool in a pinch, with a diamond grout blade. I later ran the Powerstack battery outside, cutting cement backer board in very cold weather. In those cases I like the 3ah with the 21700 cells. The only drawback one might consider, is with an oscillating tool or a similar tool where you want the larger battery case to help it stand up. It charges very quickly on the fast charger as well, so two of these batteries will keep your impact going all day long. This is great for lighter weight on the tool bag, and the Powerstack delivered consistent power. I like running the small batteries for weight, and compared to the other 20v 2ah and 3ah batteries, this unit has such a small footprint! In many cases it's slightly smaller than the base of the tool. One day I used it for framing with my 20v impact (DCF887) to run 3" deck screws, and it lasted for over 4 hours of heavy use. It is incredibly small and lightweight, it almost feels like a toy compared to the DCB203. This little battery really packs a punch! I received this battery right before Christmas, and used it on many different jobsites.
